visioning for DC participantsDC New Thought was born in April 2009 as residents in the DC area interested in new thought ideas started to meet at locations near the Takoma metro stop. We found a home in the Landis building and began our regular meetings on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. We are blessed with the participation of Science of Mind Practitioners and diversity in our membership. We all love music and incorporate good vibrations into our one-hour meetings.
DC New Thought is incorporated in Washington, DC, as a nonprofit organization. We are governed by a Core Council. This Council serves a function similar, yet not identical, to a corporate board of trustees. It is the final decision making body for the Community. The Core Council deals with issues of timing, application of resources, as well as with the overall health and unfoldment of the organization. The Chair of the Core Council and its other officers are selected from its Core Council membership. The Minister is a full member of the Council. At each Annual Membership Meeting, the Core Council shares the results of the operational plan for the year just completed and receives input from community members on the directions and plan for the year ahead.
Boards and CORE Councils are similar in operations and responsibilities, however, Councils are less hierarchal and more consensus-based. After years of visioning, the CORE model was developed by United Center for Spiritual Living's leadership, which included Michael Beckwith. CORE means central and is an acronym for Consciousness of Reality Evolving. This charges our leadership with remembering we are spiritual beings growing a spiritual community and embracing our own growth and evolution as we serve a growing community.
